The temperature sensor measures the current coolant temperature in the cylinder head through which the cooling water flows and serves to warn the driver of overheating.
The sensor of the 4BL is a so-called thermistor, or NTC resistor.
This has the characteristic that the resistance decreases as the temperature rises.
The thread is a 1/8" tapered thread (which automatically seals it).
The hexagonal head has a wrench size of 12, and the sensor is connected to the wiring harness and thus to the display instrument installed in the rev counter using a round Japanese plug.
With the DE03 model, the sensor is 100% identical except for the plug connection, a flat plug was used instead of a Japan round plug.
You can easily exchange the flat plug for a round plug yourself.

The function of the sensor can be tested outside of the motorcycle. According to Yamaha, by heating water and then measuring the resistance, the following values should result:
temperature resistance
50°C 153.9 ohms
80°C 47.5 - 56.8 ohms
100°C 26.2 - 29.3 ohms
The temperature switch closes the contact above a certain temperature and the warning lamp lights up.
Except for the plug connection, the DE03 sensor is 100% identical to the 4BL sensor mentioned above. From the DE03, a flat plug was used instead of a Japan round plug.
